Knee

Four bones meet at the knee, but only the thigh and shin bones form the knee joint. The head of the fibula provides some stability, and the kneecap helps with joint and muscle function. When cartilage is worn, the friction of bone on bone causes a number of conditions including inflammation (arthritis). Acute injury or trauma as well as chronic overuse can cause inflammation and pain & swelling. Treatment with hyaluronic acid relieves pain, whereas knee replacement surgery – a routine operation at Amsterdam Clinics – involves replacing a damaged or worn knee with an artificial joint. Rehab exercises will be supervised by your physiotherapist to speed up recovery.
