Diabetes Program

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy. Sometimes your body does not make enough—or any—insulin or does not use insulin well. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells.
Chronic diseases such as diabetes cause long-term complications that can prove fatal. Diabetes may cause nephropathy, polyneuropathy and diabetic foot, and can affect heart functioning.
Amsterdam Clinics physiotherapy provides you with exercise programs that can help you manage such diseases from the beginning as they help you control your blood sugar, stabilize your cardiac output, and increase your peripheral resistance in order to prevent complications. Furthermore, the program includes a nutritional plan and nutritional coaching to support you and provide you with the necessary tools to reach the optimum healthy lifestyle. This may be lifesaving.
